About the role
As a Developer Experience Engineer at Codeium, you will be the primary architect of the interface between our powerful AI reasoning models and the developer's daily workflow. You will own the implementation and optimization of our extensions for VS Code, JetBrains, and Neovim, directly impacting how hundreds of thousands of developers interact with Codeium and Windsurf. Your work will ensure that features like context-aware autocomplete and autonomous coding agents feel native, performant, and indispensable across all major IDE ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance plugins for VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim, and other editors.
- Architect the integration of the Windsurf agentic flow into the IDE, ensuring seamless transitions between manual coding and AI-driven tasks.
- Optimize plugin performance to minimize latency and memory footprint, ensuring high-speed AI interactions without disrupting the local UI thread.
- Collaborate with the AI Infrastructure team to define telemetry and logging standards for debugging complex model-editor interactions.
- Build and maintain shared cross-platform libraries (often in Rust or TypeScript) to ensure feature parity across all supported IDEs.
- Engage with the developer community to gather feedback, debug environment-specific issues, and prioritize the roadmap for editor features.
- Implement robust automated testing suites for IDE plugins to ensure stability across varying editor versions and operating systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on building developer tools or productivity software.
- Deep expertise in the VS Code Extension API or the JetBrains Plugin SDK (IntelliJ Platform).
- Proven experience managing complex asynchronous state and performance optimization in resource-constrained environments (like an IDE process).
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Java/Kotlin, and at least one system language like Rust or C++ for native integrations.
- Familiarity with the Language Server Protocol (LSP) and Debug Adapter Protocol (DAP).
- History of contributing to open-source developer tools or maintaining popular IDE plugins.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment with high ownership.
