About the role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Decagon, you will be the technical lead responsible for bringing our state-of-the-art AI support agents to life within the complex ecosystems of enterprise customers. You will work at the intersection of engineering and product, building custom integrations, fine-tuning LLM pipelines, and ensuring our agents handle high-volume CX workflows with human-level nuance. Your work directly scales Decagon’s impact, transforming how global brands automate customer interactions through generative AI.
Responsibilities
- Partner with customer engineering teams to lead the technical implementation of Decagon AI agents from pilot to full production.
- Build and maintain mission-critical integrations and middleware to bridge Decagon’s platform with customer CX stacks.
- Optimize agent performance by iterating on RAG pipelines, fine-tuning prompts, and analyzing model outputs for accuracy.
- Collaborate with the core Product and Engineering teams to translate customer feedback into new platform features.
- Design custom business logic and workflows that allow AI agents to execute complex actions and transactions autonomously.
- Conduct deep-dive technical troubleshooting and performance tuning for large-scale enterprise deployments.
- Develop technical documentation and best practices to streamline the onboarding process for future enterprise partners.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or a customer-facing technical role.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience working with modern web frameworks or distributed systems.
- Proven track record of building and deploying integrations with enterprise APIs (e.g., Salesforce, Zendesk, Shopify).
- Solid understanding of LLM fundamentals, including prompt engineering, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and model evaluation.
- Ability to navigate complex enterprise security requirements and data privacy standards (SOC2, HIPAA).
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain high-level AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in a high-growth startup environment where you thrive on ambiguity and rapid iteration.
