About the role
Join Outlier as an AI STEM Expert to play a pivotal role in refining the next generation of Large Language Models. In this freelance capacity, you will create high-quality, complex datasets across various STEM disciplines to improve AI reasoning and problem-solving capabilities. Your expert feedback will directly influence how models process intricate scientific inquiries and mathematical proofs, ensuring accuracy and safety. This is a 100% remote, flexible opportunity for subject matter experts to contribute to cutting-edge AI safety and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and rank AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, logical consistency, and adherence to scientific principles.
- Draft original, complex STEM problems and step-by-step solutions (Chain-of-Thought) to be used as training data.
- Identify and correct halluncinations or subtle errors in AI outputs related to mathematical proofs or scientific formulas.
- Provide detailed qualitative feedback to help engineering teams understand why specific model outputs fail or succeed.
- Collaborate with other STEM experts to establish benchmarks for model performance in niche technical domains.
- Stay updated on project-specific rubrics to ensure all data labeling meets strict quality and safety standards.
Requirements
- A Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) or equivalent professional experience in a STEM field such as Math, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to solve advanced undergraduate or graduate-level problems with extreme precision and clarity.
- Exceptional written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts.
- Prior experience in academic research, technical writing, or professional tutoring is highly preferred.
- A reliable high-speed internet connection and a secure workspace for handling proprietary datasets.
- Proactive attitude toward learning new tools and adapting to evolving project guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a results-oriented freelance environment.
